Popcorn

  Why Does Popcorn Pop ?

When you walk into a movie theater and you hear the popcorn just popping and did you know that a large AMC popcorn, without butter, contains 1,030 calories and 41 grams of fat. But it all starts back in a farmer's field full of corn.

There are different types of corn but only one type pop’s. The kernel needs to have the right amount of walter for it to pop and make the fluffy popcorn that we all love. The kernel needs 19 percent water inside of each kernel but if it has too much water it will not pop.

As the kernel heats up the water turns into steam and expands building pressure against the hard outer shell. A small explosion happens and the starch pops out to the surface.

Now you can make popcorn and you will know what you are eating from the stork of a plant to your taste buds.

  2. Hi Annabelle,
You have written a great explanation on why and how pop corn pops! I Love lots of melted butter on my popcorn, do you like any toppings on your popcorn?
